Shoulder isokinetic assessment: A critical analysis B. Forthomme, D. Maquet, J.M. Crielaard and J.L. Croisier Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, CHU Sart Tilman, Li ège, Belgium Objectives: The literature dealing with shoulder isokinetic assessment presents some contradictions in methodological aspects, protocol design and even muscles targeted [1]. Nevertheless, quantitative and objective measurement of strength is of paramount importance in the evaluation of shoulder function, particularly in some pathological contexts and in training management [2]. The aims of this study were to perform a comparative study between different installations and to assess the influence of age and position on internal (IR) and external (ER) rotator isokinetic results. Table 1 CV (%) calculated from a test-retest procedure for the shoulder ER – IR peak torques and ratios (ER/IR) in the concentric mode in three testing positions

Reliability of isokinetic assessment of shoulder-rotator strength: a systematic review of the effect of position.
CONTEXT Isokinetic assessment of shoulder internal-(IR) and external-rotator (ER) strength is commonly used with many different postures (sitting, standing, or supine) and shoulder positions (frontal or scapular plane with 45° or 90° of abduction). OBJECTIVE To conduct a systematic review to determine the influence of position on the intersession reliability of the assessment of IR and ER iso...
متن کاملThe effect of postural restoration exercises on function and isokinetic torque of shoulder external and internal rotator muscles in non-professional athletes with shoulder internal impingement syndrome
Introduction: Internal Shoulder impingement is one of the most common problems in athletes with postural asymmetry. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of postural restoration exercises on patients' disabilities and the torque of the shoulder rotator muscles. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study, 23 patients with internal shoulder entrapment were randomly divided in...
متن کاملThe effect of 8-week online scapular-focused training on scapular kinematics, proprioception, and selected muscles strength in female volleyball players with Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit
Introduction and aim: One of the most significant risk factors for throwing athletes is an internal rotation deficit of the shoulder joint. This study investigated 8-week online scapular-focused training on the scapular kinematics, proprioception, and strength of particular shoulder muscles in female volleyball players with Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit. Methodology: The present study...
متن کاملAnalysis of Range of Motion and Isokinetic Strength of Internal and External Rotation According to Humeral Retroversion of the Dominant Shoulder in Youth Baseball Players: A Pilot Study
BACKGROUND We aimed to analyze the range of motion (ROM) and internal rotation (IR) and external rotation (ER) isokinetic strength according to humeral retroversion of the dominant shoulder. METHODS We included 40 elite baseball players in Korea (OBP group: n=20 players with careers spanning >10 years, age: 19.37±2.21 years, height: 181.00±5.41 cm, weight: 84.58±7.85 kg; BBP group: n=20 playe...
متن کاملEffect of isokinetic training on shoulder impingement.
The aim of this study was to review the literature evaluating the effect of isokinetic training in patients suffering from shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS). Studies published up to March 2011 were located from the Pubmed, Scopus, Lilacs, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, and Cochrane Library databases using "isokinetic", "shoulder", and "impingement" as key words. Referenced studies were also...
